42 issue 2 by TALENT
ALTERNATIVE SLOGAN: We apologize for the inconvenience (Yep, banal as bananas)
Words' power is big, everybody seems to find trendy to write that now. Words
can change reality under your same eyes, as if you see what you read, without
real control.
The editors of 42 know this truth of the month rather well, they even write
articles about it, and they know what is the best way to convince readers that
their mag is good. Tell them that is good; sheep tendency legislates unbeaten.
In front of big, impressive and well-thought words every reader feels himself
weaker, more indifese, he is somehow fancied by the terrific self confidence of
the editors, he must believe them, since he can't accept the possibility that
they are that mentally deranged. Write for example that your next issue will be
"out of this world"; what does a reader have to think? That it will never be
published? That it will be spreaded on Mars? That maybe it's all a metaphoric
way to communicate that it will be mindblastingly great?
The reader has a good heart, he believes because he can't think evil things
about his editors. The reader does not exist, he is a category of our minds,
the only idiots who read mags entirely are other editors, like me.
It's not a problem to discuss if the mag in question is really very good or just
better than average, that is not my work, even if it is supposed to be. What I
find amazing is how these editors have unoriginally followed the temptation to
boast about their work.
They write better, they think better, they spandimerda better, but, from the top
to the mob, they don't resist from screaming their superiority as if real
superiority is really supposed to be screamt.
42 is really one of the best mag around, it is massively spandimerding and it
has the luck of having a Lunatic Ball-head who, alone, raises self irony and
symphaty for the mag.
All in all a perfect contender for the top of the charts: good quality, strong
self confidence, well devoted to MagWars, well written, good name.
In other words: Almost unoriginal.
SPANDIMERDA VALUE
Absolute. 42 is giving much to the spandimerda community. It has solemnly
entered in the MagWars, it has a strong spandimerda boasting, it features a new,
unique, style of spandimerding (more details in the Spandimerda Awards).
After all a mag that begins with "press left mousebutton to load the
masterpiece... please enjoy our work!" in the cli text must have something
strong to say.
42 is also one of the few mags around that has spandimerded Abnormalia without
limitations. That's obviously a good thing and a precious value, it reflects a
bold and brave attitude, probably due to the acknowledgement that to spandimerda
the mag of the Spandimerda Awards is the best way to win a Spandimerda Award.
That's true of course and, since we are a service for the community, we could
not avoid to award the powerful 42 for its talent.
The real spandimerda leader in the staff is El Loco of Talent. He is
responsible for the wittiest and most direct spandimerda remarks of the mag, he
writes two fundamental articles like "Did you know that..." and "An awakener..."
and he also found the genial intuition of writing: "We hate spandimerding! And
we are aware of the fact that the spandimerding is only one of your stupid ways
to fill your deranged Abnormalia magazine".
That's one of the most clever moves I have seen in scene mags. To spandimerda
others because they spandimerda! Congratulations El Loco!
SO-WHAT? ARTICLES
The only example of So-What? article, which is also a good Golden Pearl, is
"Access, really a coder?" by Rotox/Abnormal. Sadly the same editors have
published the article in order to spandimerda it a bit, as to give an example of
a typical childish article which 42 doesn't publish (except this time with
pedagogic intents). After a democratic discussion with all my idiot alter egos
(The Spandimerda Committee director, The Scenology Academy spokesman, The
So-What? Articles Council secretary, the Main Ed of Abnormalia, the Main Ed of
Scenarium and the A.F. whose presence in my life is so etereal) I have decided
not to consider this article a So-What? piece. The reason is basically that it
was published knowing that it was a So-What? article and therefore it cannot
have that basic glimpse of ingenuity typical of a similar production. A
So-What? badge anyway has to be offered to Rotox/Abnormal, the young
spandimerded author, who surely was serious when he wrote his piece.
GOLDEN PEARLS
It interesting to notice the coherent attitude of 42 editors about copyrights.
In their "Disclaimer and Copyright notes", an article strictly necessary and
fundamental for every contemporary diskmag, they write: "Copyright are only for
cowards". Interesting idea, especially considered that in the loading cli text
they underline that 42 is (C) of Talent.
Are 42 dudes self-conscious cowards?
THE RIPPER'S LITERARY CRITIC
The daughter of a guild of bards.
I don't know if you have all discovered there's one topic which is discussed and
underlined in this Talent work and which seem to be very cared by the whole
editorial team. It all started with the interview with Messerschmitt done by
Wolfman and after that, the rumors spread like a disease, a black plague.
It's the Nazi propaganda what worry our Lord Stradth, El Loco and the rest of
the gang and, to tell the truth, I would dare to say 42 itself is the new
manifesto of the new Resistance Movement which was born some months ago. I
think the danger is in the air, you can breath it. Just look at what
Messerschmitt declared on Upstream! He said some statements which even a
criminal genious should not be able affirm. He gave us a theory of the nazi's
"New Order" which is frightening every scener, without mentioning how clearly he
spotted the difference between fascism and nazism.
So it's clear that 42 is preparing to release issues also in the case a state of
censorship would appear and to release them through a sort of "secret
propaganda" which could be called "tube-stuff". Infact editors are sure in case
of a state of dictatorship their mag could be the first to be prosecuted!
So it's better to stop here any further comment, waiting to see how and where
will move the situation.
ZINKFLOID'S (UYANIK) DIRECT THOUGHTS
Just some words about it - it's shit, selfish editors, selfish articles,
uninteresting fillers, what else to say: they hate me - that's enough!
THE ULTIMATE QUOTES FROM THE BLITTER
- 42 is the ultimate number? False, 12! Double-sex...
- ABNORMALLY spoiled by their model.
- I prefer a rename into "Downstream"
LORD HELMET'S TRUE OPINION
Two issues are released of this mag scene. I better be kind with this review,
or El Loco will get some rumour from his sister Cindy again, and I will be in
trouble (again).
The mag started really promising with a very good first issue. RAW-alike, many
says. But hey, isn't that a positive remark! The second issue didn't improve
after my opinion. So for the while they are a good mag, but well behind the
best ones.
They say they don't care about critics, but why the hell use one article against
Propaganda who slaughtered their mag.
By the way, I like the name of the main editor: Lord Stradh...
A LUNATIC SPEAKS OUT (ROKDAZONE OF COURSE)
42, that means birth to the concept of the worldsfamous MARVELLOUS(!) LUNATICS
BALL. This plain let be stand alone, without further commentaries, undocumented
so to say.... and now I have once again lost my thin red line, sorry. No, 42
is the ideal ground for people to come up with new ideas and therefore it was
THE place for the MARVELLOUS(!) LUNATICS BALL to start.
The makers behind this mag were ambitious enough to release a magazine that was
quite unfinished in regards of coding and design in a time, when mags mostly are
voted for the names that have done the panels or the music. What will this tell
us? Not much, I guess...
Factual: The main writers behind 42 itself boast their name far too much; too
many information about the makers in a mag that originally wanted to be
different. The - in my opinion - excellent first issue was followed by a well
but not outstanding second release (but this time gfx and code have been
improved!). At least it seems, 42 will never have too few fiends to battle -
and that's what journalism is about in the end!
Maybe somedays the code will be finished...
MOP'S COMMENT
Is it a newcommer, or is it the RAW of 1994? Its name is 42 and you can smell
a new issue within miles. They are hard, they are cool, the 42 editors know
their territory better than an indian witch lord, ready to perform the rain
dance in a hot summer desert.
Who am I to discuss the eligibility of the 42 editors. They have been shouting
it to the whole scene, only 2 times in the past few months, and they have
convinced the whole scene about their validity. They have even convinced me.
The article work presented in this magazine is of high level. The code is
exceptional, the music is outstanding, the graphics are amazing. Not my words,
but those of the editors.
What maybe saves the magazine from being a normal offering (but with excellent
spandimerda values), to being an excellent piece of art is maybe the inclusion
of the MARVELLOUS(!) LUNATICS BALL. Just that.
NIMROD'S DEFINITION
As a member of the staff, perhaps I should not comment on it, but as a member of
the Scenology faculty, well known for its high level of scientific
professionalism, I will anyway. A newbie on the diskmag scene, with quite a lot
of old hands in the staff. Lacks in finish.
POSDNUOS' CHARTS CONCERNS
If you are looking to a mag where the professionality and the undisputable
Staff's competence about being harshly arrogant and critic as well as possible,
are on the first place, 42 is a mag that you shouldn't miss. I'm a bit worried
about the fact that THE CHARTS is the only AMIGA production these guys don't
have criticized, yet. Probably, they don't consider our chart worth of such a
great honour.
